Azura’s Team Plaid had a wonderful time at the Value of Biogas East Conference hosted by the Canadian Biogas Association (CBA). Bringing together renewable energy professionals from Canada, the United States, and around the world the event took place at the Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto, Ontario on March 30 through April 1, 2026.
The Value of Biogas conference is packed full of case studies, lessons learned, and discussions about the future of the biogas & Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) sector in Canada. We were honoured to have been invited to share our anaerobic digester experience and expertise at this year’s event.
Azura’s Principal Engineer, David Ellis moderated the technical panel, “Turning Digestate into Value: Practical Pathways for Revenue Generation” on Wednesday April 1. Digestate is often touted as a nutrient-rich byproduct with beneficial reuse potential, yet for most biogas operators, digestate disposal remains a cost center rather than a revenue stream. During this session the panelists will explore practical strategies to make digestate management economically viable. Azura’s Trisha Aldovino put together an interactive “Digestate Bingo” board which was an anonymous way for Value of Biogas conference attendees to share which digestate management challenges they had faced, and this helped to shape the conversation of the panelists.
Want to learn more about digestate best practices? The CBA has put together a “Canadian Digestate Management Guide” with technical expertise and review provided by David Ellis. This guide provides practical information for maximizing the benefits of the safe use of digestate products.
The Value of Biogas conferences are renowned as Canada’s premier gatherings for the biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) industry, and Azura was proud to once again sponsor this event. Hosting 400 biogas professionals, this conference was a fantastic opportunity to connect with business leaders, legal experts, project developers, technology vendors, as well as anaerobic digestion and RNG subject matter experts.
Attendees at this year’s conference were also treated to a tour of the Generate Upcycle London Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant. Just a short drive away from the Azura office, this is an exciting facility to visit as it produces up to 832,000 GJ of RNG annually from municipal SSO and ICI organics.
