Regulatory Compliance

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

Azura’s regulatory compliance consulting services for industrial wastewater, biogas, and anaerobic digestion systems are built around combining our rigorous, evidence-based, approach with our deep process knowledge to produce results for our clients.

We provide expert guidance on complying with the labyrinth of municipal, regional, and federal regulatory authorities. We understand the potential cost and liability associated with regulatory concerns and approach each project with a highly disciplined, evidence-based assessment.

Whether you want to understand the regulatory permitting process for a new venture, require an update to an existing approval, or need emergency assistance due to a possible violation, we can help.

If you have been charged with a wastewater related offence, we can support your legal counsel in our role as technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). If needed, we have experience providing expert reports and have provided expert witness testimony regarding environmental charges.

As engineering consultants with more than 30 years experience in the industrial wastewater, biogas, and anaerobic digestion industries, we have seen how numerous types of processes and facilities can end up in trouble. From this experience we have learned how to help you avoid regulatory issues, keep your system in control, and what to do if you find yourself facing compliance challenges or an enforcement action.

If you have a compliance risk or current challenge, we know that regulatory non-compliance and costly unscheduled downtime can grow from many possible root-causes. Our interventions are designed to get your system in compliance and operating under optimal conditions quickly and safely.

We begin each project with an assessment of not only your existing or proposed process system but also any available input, output, and operating data. We assess the data, considering both its quality and consistency, and then develop a plan to get your business moving in the right direction.

When analyzing data collected by clients or regulators, our evaluation includes not only what the data says about the process, but we also evaluate the quality and reliability of the data itself and weight the data accordingly in our work. We consider the variability that can be introduced through sampling location & technique, transportation, sample storage, and even analysis. Sometimes the laboratory analytical methods used to evaluate high-strength samples can be affected by positive or negative interferences due to other compounds in the sample.

Where warranted, further information can be gathered through specialized laboratory testing or onsite measurements. Specialized testing can be in the form of Toxicity Identification Evaluations (TIEs), Toxicity Reduction Evaluations (TREs), or other treatability studies.

Based on this comprehensive assessment, we then formulate options for your review and test assumptions. The strength of our implementation plan rests on a rock-solid foundation of hard evidence. With a detailed implementation plan in place, we move to deploying the solutions, training your staff, and optimizing your processes.

By focusing our effort on the heart of your process systems, we can help ensure your facility maintains stable, consistent compliance with your permits and regulations so you can concentrate on serving your customers and your business.

Testimonial

“Thorough analysis, technical expertise and an experienced execution. Dave provided a high degree of personalized and professional engineering insight to a nagging sewer compliance issue. Dave also assisted our attorney with the technical aspects of defending compliance charges. He is amazingly responsive at all times and helped provide a calming presence in what was a very stressful time for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer Dave’s expertise to anyone.”

Azura was instrumental in helping resolve a nagging sewer bylaw compliance issue. We’re a food processor and having Dave in our corner when it came to understanding BOD, TSS, and FOG, combined with their data-driven approach to pH control, really helped us in our dealings with the municipality. Azura understands that a true comprehensive solution to a technical problem also includes clear guidance on complying with regulatory authorities.”
