Azura’s David Ellis and Peter Quosai headed down to sunny Savannah, Georgia this spring for the Biogas Americas conference. Hosted by the American Biogas Council on May 13 through 16, 2024, this event brought together more than 2,000 renewable energy professionals from across the world. Attendees included project developers, owners, operators, investors, equipment suppliers, technology vendors, policymakers, and service providers who are working to advance the global biogas industry.
This was Team Plaid’s first time attending a US biogas conference and we were proud to be able to sponsor the event as well. There is growing demand for biogas in the US, and this was the perfect opportunity to hear about upcoming projects, new tech, and lessons learned as Americans work to manage organic waste and lower their carbon footprint with renewable energy.
The technical presentations featured many panel presentations which brought lively discussion about the current challenges and opportunities of anaerobic digestion. We also heard lessons learned from a variety of biogas projects. We enjoyed the sessions exploring carbon credit accounting for RNG projects, sharing new business models for small and medium digesters generating electricity, and discussing the social elements of making food waste biodigester projects work. The best part – the discussion between the panel experts brought out a curiosity and creativity in all the attendees to explore and innovate in the biogas space.
Over the course of the conference, we had many conversations with business leaders working on innovative projects and gained great insights that we were able to bring back to the rest of the team here in Canada.
We look forward to attending this conference again in 2025. To learn more about the Biogas Americas event, please visit the conference website.
