In June 2024 Azura headed to Toronto for the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists’ (OACETT) Innovating for a Greener Future Conference. Over the course of the event Team Plaid had many excellent discussions about organic waste, biogas, and how anaerobic digestion can be part of creating a greener future.
The conference kicked off for Azura with a Technology Showcase. This was our inaugural booth experience, and it was a great success! James Arambarri, Peter Quosai, and Trisha Aldovino spent hours talking with technicians and technologists about anaerobic digestion. They shared information about potential feedstocks and how different types of organic waste can affect the gas production. They also shared examples of corrosion and mechanical failures and discussed how to identify potential risks and take a proactive approach to continue stable gas production.
The Azura booth was designed as interactive way to learn about the anaerobic digestion process, feedstocks, and process issues. Attendees explored different feedstocks and were able to guess which feedstocks produced the most energy and how long they would take to degrade. Thanks to our clients, we also featured a display of bizarre contaminants that they found in their feedstock – one of them was a car spring that was mixed with green bin waste! These contaminants and Azura’s binder of process issues showed attendees some operational challenges that AD operators solve day-to-day. On the second day of the conference, Azura presented a professional development course on “Anaerobic Digestion Fundamentals”. This session covered topics such as:
- Decarbonizing the Future with Anaerobic Digestion, Biogas, and RNG
- Introduction to the Anaerobic Digestion: From Green Bin to Green Gas
- How Feedstocks affect Operational Risk Optimizing Anaerobic Digester Plant Performance
At Azura we are committed to lifelong learning. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce a new audience to anaerobic digestion and its potential to build a more sustainable future. We presented to wide audience and we are thankful to all the attendees from diverse fields for their participation and thoughtful contributions to the discussion of renewable energy.
Overall, the OACETT conference was a wonderful opportunity for the Azura team to connect with engineering technicians and technologists and learn about the technological innovations pushing Ontario to a greener future.
