The Value of Biogas West Conference hosted by the Canadian Biogas Association was held October 31st – November 2nd, 2022 in Vancouver, BC. James Arambarri and Dave Ellis from the Azura Team were able to attend this exciting event which brought together subject matter experts and leaders in the field for insightful discussions and networking. Azura Associates were sponsors of this premier biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) conference.
On October 31st, James was able to participate in the site tour or the Lulu Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is B.C.’s first RNG Wastewater Treatment Plant. The location first started operating in the 1970s and continues to undergo upgrades to work towards Net-Zero Energy wastewater treatment. According to Richard Stewart, chair of Metro Vancouver’s liquid waste committee, the Lulu Island plant serves over 200,000 Richmond residents and treats about 26 billion litres of wastewater each year.
On November 2nd, Dave Ellis presented, “Best Practices for Digester Monitoring and Feedstock Characterization” during the “Feedstock – Your Key to Success” session. During the session, Dave discussed feedstock blends and how regular monitoring and adjusting by skilled operators is key for maintaining reliable biogas production.
Throughout the conference, the Azura Team had the opportunity to sit in on several insightful presentations and meet new industry colleagues. We would like to thank the Canadian Biogas Association for hosting such a wonderful event and we look forward to the next one!
