The Azura Associates team had a great time at the Value of Biogas West Conference hosted by the Canadian Biogas Association. This in-person event took place in October in Calgary, Alberta and Azura’s Dave Ellis, James Arambarri, and Peter Quosai were in attendance. Value of Biogas East and West are Canada’s premier biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) conferences, bringing together leaders in the field for insightful discussion and networking. Once again, this conference was a terrific opportunity to connect with business leaders, legal experts, project developers, technology vendors, and anaerobic digestion and RNG subject matter experts (SMEs).
To kick off the event, the Azura team joined a fascinating tour of the SkyMar Biogas facility in Lethbridge, Alberta! This anaerobic digester facility is working on an expansion that includes a 40,000 tonne/year de-packaging line to process residential source separated organics, packaged industrial, commercial, and institutional wastes. These tours are always an insightful part of the Value of Biogas conference and we’d like to thank Skyline Energy for the experience.
On day two of the conference, Dave Ellis presented, “Improving the Social Acceptability of Biogas” which was based on his more than 30 years experience with digester facilities. Dave spoke about how despite the many social and environmental benefits, biogas isn’t immune to resistance from local communities. He discussed current approaches to reduce and eliminate odors as well as shared insights from his recent experience with community engagement and regulatory authorities. Dave was joined by Ryan Hart from Biogas World and there was great discussion with a focus on strategies for constructive community engagement.
The Canadian Biogas Association does great work hosting these events and providing reliable info on biogas to the industry. Azura is proud to be member of the Canadian Biogas Association and we are grateful to sponsor and attend these events.
