The Azura Associates team will be attending the upcoming Value of Biogas East Conference in May 2022.
Azura Associates was pleased to be a sponsor for this event and to have Amos Ncube present the paper he co-authored with Jonathan Cocker, Gabriella Fiorentino, and Azura’s David Ellis.
David Ellis was asked to present at the 1st Canadian International Water Association Young Water Professionals Conference. Hosted by and for young professionals and students, this conference showcased the leadership and technical abilities of YWPs across Canada. David shared his expertise gained over 30+ years of experience in the anaerobic digestion industry through a workshop session.
Azura’s David Ellis presented two different case studies based on troubleshooting the failure of food waste anaerobic digesters as part of Dr. Daniel Zitomer’s short course titled: “Anaerobic Treatment of High-Strength Industrial and Agricultural Wastes.” This course has been offered annually by Marquette University for more than 19 years.

A case study of a full-scale food waste digester failure and recovery was presented at the Value of Biogas West Conference in Vancouver. This case study demonstrates the need for balance in anaerobic digester feedstock as too much of the coveted FOG can be problematic.

David Ellis presented a methodology developed specifically to optimize anaerobic digestion systems at the Value of Biogas Webinar Series hosted by the Canadian Biogas Association (CBA) in June 2020.
Azura’s experience with food waste anaerobic co-digestion (AnCoD) and our work at energy producing biogas plants was the basis for one of two podium presentations scheduled for the 2020 WEAO conference. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person conference and presentations were cancelled, luckily the papers were still published.

The third Getting to Net Zero Energy event was hosted by the Ontario Water Consortium in February of 2020. This event continued the momentum toward getting five municipal wastewater treatment facilities converted to net zero energy by focusing on anaerobic codigestion to produce biogas. The biogas produced through anaerobic digestion of comingled food waste, organic waste, and sewage biosolids can be used to produced renewable electricity, or purified to produce renewable natural gas (RNG).
Azura’s David Ellis presented a case study of helping a farm-based digester as a part of Dr. Daniel Zitomer’s anaerobic digestion online short course. The case study focused on the importance of testing and knowing what additional data to look for in digestor remediation. The study also shares some empirical guideline values for LCFA concentrations in digester as determined by years of LCFA testing done by Azura.
